An Introduction to Me
Yes, that is correct: I am very interested in the digital humanities. I bring with me everywhere I go a desire to promote access to the documents, objects, and stories that reside in the small historical societies on up to major institutions. Local memories made accessible to the all the people in the world. Sounds lovely, doesn't it? It started when I was trying to do historical research on people and events that were too far to travel to for the primary sources I needed. I thought a masters in library science would serve me better for learning more about how archives, libraries, museums, and technology can all work together in this new era of digital access.
"All Rolled into One Ball of Energy?" Absolutely! Not one to sit still in my free time, I am a volunteer researcher and house guide at Pottsgrove Manor. I am involved in PhillyDH, a digital humanities initiative for the Greater Philadelphia Area, the planning committee for THATCamp Philly, ALA's Preservation Week, and I assist with the Facebook page and annual planning for PubComm, the Public History Communication Forum sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities (MARCH) at Rutgers Camden. I am trying to find another activity similar to one I participated in the past, an e-ternship with George Washington's Mount Vernon.

I once spent a week in Chicago at ALA's 2013 Annual Conference in the Student-to-Staff Program. (Here I am at the bottom of the list!) I had an awesome time, met so many fun people, and learned so much about myself. While there, I assisted the Office of Literacy and Outreach Services (OLOS) with such inspiring events as the Diversity & Outreach Fair, the Coretta Scott King Book Award Breakfast, and the Stonewall Book Awards Brunch. I came away knowing that I picked the right sections and committees to join. The people in the Emerging Technologies in Reference Section and the History Section of RUSA are awesome! I accepted a nomination to the Preservation Week Committee (under ALCTS-PARS), and now assist with its social media endeavors.

I was so happy when I completed my Bachelors of Arts in History, with a concentration in 18th and mid-19th Century American History, from American Public University in 2012. The capstone paper for my bachelors was accepted, and I presented in the student poster session at the Pennsylvania Historical Association's Annual Meeting in November 2012. That paper can be downloaded below. I intend to continue my historical research in Pennsylvania history, and hope to see more of my work in print one day. The first time I celebrated the publication of an article was in The Saber & Scroll, a peer-reviewed student journal at APU, at the top of March 2012. A copy of the Spring 2012 Journal is also found below. Papers written for school, including those that were published, can also be viewed at my Academia.Edu account as they become available.

A little more background on me!
I belong to several professional organizations, including the Society of American Archivists, the Special Libraries Association, and the American Library Association. I am also a member of the Delaware Valley Archivists Group, the Pennsylvania Library Association, and participate in activities with SLA's Philadelphia Chapter.
I serve as the Judge of Elections for Precinct #150 of Chester County, Pennsylvania. Formerly a paralegal by trade, with an A.A.S in Paralegal Studies, I worked for eight years at one of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania’s oldest law firms, High Swartz LLP. During my years there, I became a member of the Chester County Paralegal Association.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, I love to travel. I am married to a wonderful man who agreed years ago to be dragged to museums, reenactments, and festivals, with minimal complaining. My children, now grown, were brought along on every outing with us.
I always loved volunteering my time to help others. In high school, I assisted in the Sisters of Mercy soup kitchen, the Women’s Center of Montgomery County, and joined the Community Conservation Corps. I was awarded Honorary In-Flight Mess Steward from the 330th Engineer Battalion, formerly located in Worchester, Pennsylvania, for volunteer work over the holidays for service members and their families during Desert Storm in 1991. Throughout my children’s combined 16 years of school, I volunteered throughout the school district. I held officer and committee leader positions in several PTA/PTSA organizations and the NJROTC Parents Association, was a committee person and merit badge counselor for Boy Scout Troop 95, a trained adviser for Crew 95, and a coach for several community youth sports programs.

On a personal note ...
What makes me so proud? My children! On Memorial Day 2010, my children attended the Pottstown Memorial Day parade with their NJROTC unit. This was a very proud moment for my husband and I as parents since our son, only a high school junior at the time, had the honor to carry the American flag, and our daughter, a senior who struggled with any performances in public due to her disability, was selected to march at the front as a rifleman.
